Nice.Īnd all I get out of this one is about 3" of snow then rain on top of it. A trip to the closest dealer and $16.52 of my money, parts in hand. It was barely wet, evaporating before it could pool anywhere. Deep inside I find it.the fuel valve is weeping. Saturday I took out about 14 hex head bolts, removing muffler and all the covers to get at the fuel tank. I went down and pored over the snowblower and fuel can. I'm really sensitive to it, apparently, because no one else in the house (wife, daughter, and tenant) smelled it. OK, I replace that 4" of tubing during the week. Looking it over afterward I found the rubber tube from the primer bulb to the carburetor had cracked, nearly broken in half. It was really hard to start, but I finally got it going with the electric starter. Last weekend I put gas in my 2013 Ariens Platinum 30 and ran it, in preparation for use. You can't seem to buy a break when it comes to worry-free operation of a snowblower, Randy. Overall it is easier to handle than my old machine which was half the size and weight but had a solid axle. The feature is definitely a compromise but again. When considering the maneuverability it provides for when you want to pivot the machine and the fact that it will never break, I think it's well worth it. I've heard it's adjustable and that by increasing the tension you can limit the effect but it will cause more resistance when you want to pivot the machine. I can only imagine what it would be like on a dirt driveway.

If you don't resist it the whole machine will do a full 90 degree turn. If the side of the bucket catches the snow on the edge from previous storms, the machine will jolt to the side suddenly and it takes some muscle to keep it straight. I have a smooth driveway and for me the biggest problem is when I'm doing the edges. I never push the machine and always let it drive itself so I don't believe that to be part of the issue. It's not too bad, but enough to be a factor for smaller people. This causes the machine to turn very suddenly and it takes a little muscle to keep it straight.

The application of force on one side of the machine breaks one wheel free in the differential while power is still being applied to the other. The problem with Autoturn is when either the left or right edge of the bucket catches something. The display at the dealers looks like this: Since the machine is slower in reverse, I pull the handle on the outside of the turn I want to make and the differential unlocks nice and easy. I actually have better results while backing up. I have a hard time getting it to unlock while moving forward since it takes a lot of effort to push a tracked snowblower.

I have a Hydro Pro Track 28 and my problem is opposite of the people with wheels. If the machine was set up properly you shouldn't have to make adjustments but they are all easy to do and worth checking if you have issues: Problems With Ariens Auto-Turn Snow Blowers?. There are a number of mechanical alignments people have suggested that greatly improve the response of the autoturn differential. As soon as you start to push the machine, you take the load off the differential and it's primed to unlock on you. If you allow the machine to push itself with a load on the front (or lightly pull back on the handles to keep a load on the drive wheels), the differential will stay locked and you wont have an issue. This means that if you are accustomed to muscling your snowblower, you are far more likely to accidently unlock the differential because you are pushing the machine faster than it wants to go. The differential unlocks as soon as you make one wheel turn slightly faster than the current speed of the blower. If your dealer has a cutout display of one, its remarkably simple operation becomes readily apparent. He said he personally preferred the lever activated diff like Toro has for easier turning.I believe the majority of people having issues with the new Autoturn differential don't fully understand how it works. He said it might not be the best choice for a gravel driveway, or for someone who likes to set the scraper blade all the way down on their paved driveway. The owner told me that most people are happy with the new diff but he's had some returns from people who said they were fighting it the whole time they used it. Wrestling the old direct drive blower around is a lot of work for her when I'm not home. I told the owner that I was thinking about maybe buying a newer one to get the easy turn differential for the rare occasions when my wife needs to run the blower. I stopped in at a local Ariens/Honda/Toro dealer to buy a part for my 12yo 11.5hp Ariens snowblower last weekend.
